Multiculturalism and it's failure in Britain
Multiculturalism: A Lack of Cohesion
With the Olympics coming to the U.K this year, the British are showcasing their culture, country , and society. What is Britishisness? What first must ask what is culture. There are many definitions but one of them is "The customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group" The U.K by extent the British and its long history of formation of its language and its social and legal institution have greatly benefited man, one of them being the paternal parent of the U.S. American law based is on common law which began in Britain and no where else. Britishisness is not just tea, bowler hats, or even fish and chips but the foundation of the concept of separation of powers in modern western history. This proud lineage is over a thousand years ago with the merger of Saxon and Normanism until the full Union of 1801 which is the Union jack today; Scottish flag and Britannias flag united.
In order for a culture of civilization to survive it must have common past to be proud and an goal or eye to the future. Today, many young Britons don't have an appreciation or common pride in their illustrious history and culture. The British, brought us common law, a mighty navy in the Mediterranean, and one could argue industrialization which is the grandfather of all of the modern conveniences that we take for granted today. But more than materiel things it brought us its society and the norms that we live in today. The idea of decorum and respect and civility. Fair play, queuing and that idea that elites of society have a moral responsibility to encourage and help all classes, to bring them to their fullest potential; physically, mentally, and morally. Most every where Britain has left its mark in the past it has been a positive one, from the U.S and Canada and its other commonwealth countries, Britain left not only its language but its social, legal, education, and economic institutions which allowed those countries to grow and prosper on it's own. That proud history has brought its success today which is why millions of people from all around the world are trying to immigrate there (hopefully not just for its generous social services).
It's a very sad day that an American has to try to put some perspective on Britain's value to itself and the world. There is a common trend in the west to undervalue or not value at all its countries contribution to the world and its rightful place as a positive but instead admonish patriotism.
That leads to my second point: with an unregulated immigration there are elements of society that still don't see themselves as British but only hold honor and prestige with their ancestors and culture unmitigatedly and unabashedly and fully rather than their current country of residence. Now, I am not saying to ignore or not honor your heritage, but what I am saying is you should assimilate and have full loyalty to which the civilization you hold citizenship, learn its history ,customs and become "British". That means, talk British, think British, act British and in times of war fight for Britishness and her people. A
civilization cannot survive if their is not a common narrative. One people, one law, one culture should be the goal, not separate cultures within a culture. That leads to in cohesion which leads down the break down of society. Whether its certain demographics that show more kinship and loyalty and identify themselves based on their religion rather than Britain, or refusing to follow the same law as any commoner would have to and set up their own laws and practices.
There is a fork in the road: one road lead to one with a common direction and purpose and history, and the other in which is many roads or no road at all, which will lead to chaos. So, you have a choice, one commonality; a culture with a face and identity.
With these games coming close, show a good front and a proud face to the world and the sun will never set on you or your comrades.
