The Importance of society and its survival in relation to military morale

There has been many talks of the military and its connection to sports and other forms of advertising. Opponents of the military sponsoring sports such as NASCAR and other sports say it is not needed and/or wasteful spending. I very much disagree with that. Sports in military history is well founded and known. From Spartan warriors wrestling in the Olympics or Genghis Khans cavalry playing in games of racing to Saladin and his fellow officers playing polo. They gave enjoyment, leisure and an outlet for soldiers during times of peace and in war. Being a soldier whose sole occupation is to kill and perhaps die for the sake of society can wear physiologically on ones bearings. If a society doesn't  nurture the physiological health or overall happiness of the men who wear the uniform to protect you while you sleep, you are hampering military morale which can lead to social and cultural problems within the military and it's effectiveness.
What is a sport? Well, according to the dictionary (http://dictionary.reference.com) it is "an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature...". Interesting, that sounds like something you want an effective military to be and aspire to. Skill, physical prowess, and a competitive spirit are all positive things in civilian life as well as military life. Military practice/training in fact is a game or sport if you want. Training in various military disciplines can be construed as a sport. Sport is the strive for human excellence in mind and in body. People that are against military sports are in truth against the military itself and its resources. Today, politicians who rive their hair and rave against the military in sports are in actuality anti military and covet those taxes dollars for themselves and their own social and political agendas. So, be honest and argue in a proper disputation of transparency and frankness in mass media is all I ask of anti military politicians. If your true desire is military frugality and discipline in economy I admire that and welcome it with open arms. However, if your goal is the complete abolishment of sport in military life you are going to have a fight on your hands; from me and other proponents of sports in the military whether it be NASCAR (Which i dislike), football, or any other public/private display of recreational or competitive sports.
